This is an absolutely stunning crinoid. It is a large Gilbertsocrinus dispanus from the Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This unusual type of camerate crinoid has five, long, multi-branching appendages emanating from the tegmen that recurve wonderfully over the spiked cup. All of the appendages are present on this terrific specimen and are beautifully displayed. Many of the tiny, uniserial arms are preserved and easily seen. This very 3-dimensional crinoid has superb color and contrast and is well centered on the sculpted plate of siltstone. This is one of the most ornate and striking types of crinoids from Crawfordsville, and this specimen showcases these features beautifully.
