This is a gorgeous fossil crinoid from Australia. It is a very large Jimbacrinus bostocki from the Permian. Articulated Permian crinoids are quite rare in the fossil record. This type of crinoid has a large cup with ornamented, ''spiky'' plates and long, stout, uniserial arms that curl around and round. This 3-dimensional specimen exhibits all of these features in wonderful fashion. The detail of the crinoid is extremely nice - the plate structure is clearly defined, and the robust arms are complete to the very tips. A long, round stem is still tightly attached to the cup of the crinoid. The echinoderm has great color and contrast and is beautifully presented on the plate of matrix that also contains another partial crinoid. This is a very displayable crinoid from the Late Paleozoic.
