This is a very attractive crinoid. It is an Onychocrinus ulrichi from the famous Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of Flexible crinoid has a multi-plated base with five stout arms that branch only once near the tips. The arms of this crinoid have tiny ramules that aided in the food-gathering process. This crinoid is well preserved in a side view position. Four of the arms are beautifully displayed, and the other arm is still encased in matrix. The ''sea lily'' is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The plate structure is easily seen, and the arms are complete to the very tips. Two of the arms have been painstakingly prepared in a free-standing position for optimal display. The fossil has nice color and contrast, and is wonderfully centered on the rounded plate of matrix. This is a fine example of Onychocrinus ulrichi from the Edwardsville Formation.
