This is an outstanding plate of crinoids that we recently obtained from a major crinoid collection. This specimen is from the Lodgepole Formation of Montana. On the left side of the plate is a very large example of Platycrinites bozemanensis. This type of crinoid has an urn-shaped cup, biserial arms, and a twisted stem. These features are wonderfully defined on this example. The crinoid on the right side of the slab is an unusual Batocrinus gallatinensis. This type of crinoid has a small, cone-shaped cup with biserial arms. An extremely long, round stem is still tightly attached to the cup of this crinoid. The stem even displays many of the cirri, which is quite uncommon. Both crinoids exhibit incredible detail - even the pinnulation of the arms is clearly defined. The inflated echinoderms have great color and contrast and are well presented on the somewhat triangular plate of limestone. The back side of the plate also contains another complete crown of Platycrinites (not pictured). This is an excellent plate of crinoids from an obscure location.
