This is an excellent specimen of Scytalocrinus disparilis from the Mississippian of Indiana. This type of crinoid has a cone-shaped cup and extremely long, uniserial arms. This specimen exhibits wonderful detail, and the slender arms are complete to the very tips, which is highly unusual. The plate structure is clearly defined, and even the long pinnules of the splayed arms are beautifully displayed. A lengthy section of stem is still tightly attached to the base of the cup. The ''sea lily'' almost appears to be alive, gathering food with its delicate arms in the soft ocean currents. The fossil has great color and contrast and is nicely centered on the oval plate of matrix. This is a remarkable example of this Crawfordsville crinoid.
