This is a spectacular crinoid that we recently obtained from a major echinoderm collection. It is an Onychocrinus ulrichi from the famous Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of crinoid has a multi-plated base with five stout arms that branch only once near the tips. The arms of this crinoid have tiny ramules that aided in the food-gathering process. This Flexible crinoid is wonderfully preserved in the ''starburst'' position. All five arms are unusually complete to the very tips and beautifully displayed. The crinoid is very 3-dimensional, and the plate structure is clearly defined. The cream-colored crinoid contrasts well with the tannish-gray matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a gorgeous example of Onychocrinus from Indiana.
