Here is a very unique crinoid. This is Dichocrinus sp. from the Mississippian of Illinois. This crinoid is quite uncommon from this site. This type of crinoid has a small, cone-shaped cup with slender, uniserial arms. These features are wonderfully displayed on this specimen. The arms are unusually complete to the very tips, and the fine pinnulation of the arms is quite evident. The inflated echinoderm has very good color and contrast and is nicely presented on the somewhat oval plate of siltstone. This is an excellent example of this rare crinoid from the Warsaw Formation.
