This is a fantastic crinoid plate from the Upper Burlington Formation of Missouri. On the left side of the slab is an unusual specimen of Platycrinites sp. This crinoid has a smooth cup and a very nodose tegmen. A stunning example of Dorycrinus missouriensis is on the right side of the plate. This is one of the most highly collectible crinoids to be found in the Burlington Formation. This particular crinoid is quite uncommon, and to find one that is this displayable is extremely rare. This type of crinoid has five long spines radiating from the tegmen which may have been used for defensive purposes. All five spines are beautifully displayed, and the plate structure of the echinoderm is just wonderful. The 3-dimensional, white crinoids contrast well with the orangish-brown matrix. They are nicely presented on the somewhat rectangular plate of limestone that is almost a coquina of crinoid fragments. This is a gorgeous specimen of this unusual crinoid from the Mississippian.
