Here is a nice plate of crinoids from the famous Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. There are three crinoids (of two different types) on this slab. Two specimens of Macrocrinus mundulus are located near the upper left and bottom of the plate. This type of camerate crinoid has a cup composed of numerous plates and biserial arms. Both crinoids are quite inflated and exhibit fine detail. The plate structure of the cups is easily seen, and the arms are clearly defined. The extremely long anal tubes are intact and extend far beyond the tips of the arms. The fine pinnulation of the arms is beautifully showcased, especially on the larger specimen. An excellent Cyathocrinites multibrachiatus is displayed on the upper right portion of the plate. This inadunate crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup and long, multi-branching, uniserial arms. This sea lily is wonderfully preserved with the arms unusually complete. Even the tiny, tiny tips of the arms are present. All of the crinoids still have lengthy portions of stem attached. The fossils have great, natural color and contrast well with the gray matrix. This is an attractive plate of crinoids from a renowned site.
