Here is a very nice Mississippian crinoid. This is Platycrinites hemisphericus from Crawfordsville, Indiana. This camerate crinoid is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits excellent detail. The extremely granulated plates of the cup are clearly defined. The feathery, uniserial arms are complete to the very tips and display the pinnules in beautiful fashion. A long, twisted stem (indicative of the genus) is still tightly attached to the cup. The crinoid has good color and contrast and is well presented on the semi-rectangular slab of siltstone that also contains the basal plates of a large Platycrinites. This is a very attractive crinoid from this famous site.
