Here is a very displayable crinoid plate from the Mississippian of Indiana. There are five, 3-dimensional crinoids on the rectangular slab - all with stem attached. The largest crinoid is Actinocrinites gibsoni. This camerate crinoid has a very large cup with highly ornamented plates. The long, multi-branching, biserial arms are intact and beautifully exhibited. Even the fine pinnulation of the arms is preserved and the top of the long anal tube is visible between the tips of the arms. A long, long stem is still tightly attached to this beautiful crinoid. This is a HUGE specimen. Also on the plate are two examples of Macrocrinus mundulus. This camerate crinoid has a cone-shaped cup with biserial arms. Both specimens on this plate have stem attached and show the long anal tube above the tops of the arms. A very pretty specimen of Agaricocrinus splendens is also present. This crinoid has a very flat cup with extremely stout, biserial arms. The pinnulation of the arms is wonderfully displayed. Lying on top of the Agaricocrinus is an unidentified inadunate crinoid. This crinoid has a very small cup with long, branching arms. The fossils have excellent color and contrast. They are well positioned on the large, rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a superb plate of crinoids from this famous site near Crawfordsville, Indiana.
