Here is a very nice combination of two different echinoderms on the same plate. This specimen is from the Mississippian of Missouri. On the left is a very inflated example of Abatocrinus clypeatus. This crinoid has great plate structure and shows fine detail. The stem attachment point and arm attachment points are easily seen. Above and to the right of this crinoid is a superb specimen of Cryptoblastus melo. This melon-shaped blastoid is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The thin ambulacra are clearly defined and even the small spiracles are easily seen. The white coloration of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the brownish matrix. The echinoderms are nicely positioned on the semi-rectangular plate of limestone. This is a very appealing specimen of two different echinoderms.
