Here is a very nice multiple plate of crinoids from Crawfordsville, Indiana. There are four crinoids and a branching coral on this slab. All of the fossils are inflated and well preserved. The long-stemmed crinoid in the center of the plate is a beautiful example of Platycrinites hemisphericus. An extremely long (almost totally complete), twisted stem, with many cirri exposed, is tightly attached to the cup. The cup is comprised of large plates that are very ornamented. The "feathery" arms of the crinoid exhibit a multitude of tiny pinnules. This is a "textbook" example of this classic crinoid. There are also three specimens of Scytalocrinus disparilis on the plate. These crinoids have bowl-shaped cups with long, uniserial arms that branch only once. These crinoids also display very fine detail - even the very thin pinnules are quite evident. All three Scytalocrinus still have some stem attached. In the upper right corner of the plate is Cladochonus beecheri, a branching-type coral. The fossils have great color and contrast and are naturally positioned in wonderful fashion on the large plate of siltstone. This is a very aesthetic plate of fossils from this famous site.
