Here is an excellent Macrocrinus mundulus from the Mississippian beds near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of camerate crinoid has a large, multi-plated cup and long, unbranching, biserial arms. This specimen displays these features very nicely. The arms are unusually complete to the very tips and the fine pinnules are beautifully exhibited. The long anal tube extends above the tops of the arms. An extremely lengthy section of stem is tightly attached to the cup. The 3-dimensional fossil has great pinkish color and contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. It is well centered on the oval plate of siltstone that also contains another long crinoid stem. This is a very attractive example of Macrocrinus mundulus.
