Here is a very pretty crinoid. This is Abrotocrinus unicus from the Mississippian of Indiana. This type of crinoid has a shallow, bowl-shaped cup with long, branching uniserial arms. This 3-dimensional specimen has excellent plate structure and the "feathery" arms display the pinnules in wonderful fashion. The arms are unusually complete down to the tiny tips. A short section of stem is still tightly attached to the cup (hard to see in photo). The fossil has great color and contrast and is nicely positioned on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very fine example of Abrotocrinus from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
