Here is a slab of siltstone from Indiana containing two beautiful crinoids. The crinoid on the left side of the plate is an extremely rare Cydrocrinus concinnus. This type of crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup with long, uniserial arms that are comprised of very tiny wedge-shaped plates. Many times, this crinoid has arms that are broken off short or missing entirely. This specimen is extremely unusual in that the arms are complete to the tiny tips and are folded inward at the very top. A portion of the stem is still attached to this crinoid. On the right side of the slab is a very appealing example of Barycrinus stellatus. This "sea lily" has a large cup with nodose plates. This crinoid has stout armlets arising from the thick, uniserial arms. The 3-dimensional crinoids have good color and contrast. This is a very fine example of a scarce Cydrocrinus sitting beside a very pretty Barycrinus.
