Here is a fabulous specimen that we recently obtained from a major crinoid collection. This is Euonychocrinus simplex from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. The quarry where this crinoid was found has been filled with water and closed to collecting for many years. Many "experts" agree that this site produced the finest Pennsylvanian crinoids in the world. When we look at this specimen we would have to concur. When collecting was allowed, this was a very difficult crinoid to find - and hardly ever in this condition. This very rare Flexible crinoid is totally free of matrix. Both sides of the specimen display beautifully. The plate structure of this specimen is excellent and the stout arms are wonderfully complete. This is one of the most spectacular examples of this extremely scarce crinoid that we have ever seen.
