Here is a gorgeous plate of crinoids from the Mississippian beds of Crawfordsville, Indiana. There are four different crinoids on the plate and each species is a different color. On the left is an example of Dichocrinus sp. This camerate crinoid has a small cup with long, uniserial arms. Under magnification, the pinnules of the arms are readily seen. A lengthy portion of stem is still tightly attached to the cup. Near the center of the slab is a fine specimen of Macrocrinus mundulus. This camerate crinoid has a large, multi-plated cup with unbranching, biserial arms. The arms are almost all complete to the very tips and display the pinnules in wonderful fashion. The long anal tube extends high above the arms. To the right of the Macrocrinus is a very pretty Cyathocrinites sp. This inadunate crinoid has a cup comprised of large, stellate plates. The uniserial arms of this crinoid are unusually complete and branch many, many times. This crinoid still retains a portion of the stem. Above the Cyathocrinites is an extremely robust Agaricocrinus splendens. The top view of this "sea lily" shows the stout, biserial arms, complete with pinnules, with incredible detail. These fossil echinoderms have wonderful, natural color and contrast very nicely with the gray matrix. There has been no compositing done to this spectacular plate - no crinoids have been added. They are beautifully positioned on the rectangular block of siltstone. This is an excellent display of crinoids from the famous Crawfordsville, Indiana area.
