Here is an interesting plate of echinoderms from the Mississippian of Missouri. One crinoid and two blastoids are on the block. The crinoid is Uperocrinus longirostris. This species is found only in the Lower Burlington Formation. This specimen is very robust and displays good plate structure. The stem attachment point and the arm attachment points are very noticeable. The two melon-shaped blastoids are Cryptoblastus melo. They are very 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The narrow ambulacra are quite evident and even the spiracles are easily seen. There is a HUGE, branching crinoid stem also on the plate. The off-white color of the fossils contrasts nicely with the orangish matrix. They are well positioned on the rectangular block of limestone. This is a very unique plate of echinoderms from the Lower Burlington Formation.
