Here is a very aesthetic crinoid from the famous site near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This is Scytalocrinus robustus from the Mississippian. This type has a small, bowl-shaped cup with long, extremely robust, uniserial arms. The crinoid is very inflated and exhibits fine detail. A lengthy portion of articulated stem is attached to the cup. The plate structure of the cup is very well defined. The stout arms are complete to the very tiny tips and display the long, fine pinnules. The cream-colored fossil contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the oval plate of siltstone. This is a very attractive crinoid from Indiana.
