Here is an extremely exciting crinoid specimen from the Edwardsville Formation near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This specimen was recently obtained from a major Midwest U. S. crinoid collection. This may be the most aesthetic example of Gilbertsocrinus dispansus we have ever seen. The plate structure of this crinoid is truly amazing! The top of the crinoid is fully displayed in all its glory. The long appendages emanating from the tegmen are fully complete and recurved beautifully. Even the thin, uniserial arms, complete with fine pinnules, are wonderfully exhibited. And have we mentioned the stem? The articulated stem leaves the cup of the crinoid, makes a complete circle, and then runs the length of the slab, slowly tapering in diameter. This is a gorgeous specimen of this bizarre crinoid.
There is also a nice specimen of Barycrinus asteriscus on the plate. This crinoid also has a stem attached and shows fine detail. The 3-dimensional fossils have great color and contrast. They are artistically positioned on the rectangular plate of matrix. This is the kind of fossil that will be admired and talked about for many years to come.
