Here is a nice plate of crinoids from Gilmore City, Iowa. We recently acquired this piece in an old collection. This classic location has been closed to collecting for a number of years, ever since some drunken fool drove his car over the wall of the quarry. There are five crinoids on the large plate. Four of the crinoids are Dichocrinus multiplex. This camerate crinoid has a large, urn-shaped cup and long, uniserial arms that branch only once. The feathery arms display fine pinnulation. The other fossil echinoderm is an unidentified inadunate crinoid. This crinoid has more stout, uniserial arms that branch many times. Some of the specimens have the stem attached. The fossils have good color and contrast. They are nicely presented on the natural plate of limestone. This is a very fine plate of crinoids from this classic location.
