Here is an extremely rare crinoid that we recently acquired from a major crinoid collection. This is Erisocrinus typus from the Pennsylvanian of Pontiac, Illinois. This crinoid was collected many years ago, as the quarry has been filled with water and closed to collecting for almost 25 years. This type of inadunate crinoid has a fairly large, bowl-shaped cup and extremely long, stout, biserial arms. This 3-dimensional specimen has been totally extracted from the surrounding matrix and is exceptionally "clean" on all sides. Only a very few specimens of this crinoid were ever found with the arms fully intact - usually they were broken off short. This specimen has the long arms present with the pinnules beautifully displayed. The plate structure is wonderfully defined and the natural pinkish color of the crinoid makes for an outstanding display. This is a very collectable crinoid from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois.
