This is a very pretty specimen of Onychocrinus ulrichi from the Mississippian of Indiana. This fossil was recently obtained from an old collection. This crinoid is preserved in the "starburst" position, where the stem attachment is in the middle and all five arms are splayed out. It is very unusual to find all five arms preserved and beautifully displayed. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated - even the tiny ramules of the arms are present. The plate structure is superbly defined and the stem attachment point is easily seen. The white color of the crinoid contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The fossil is perfectly centered on the rounded block of matrix. This is an excellent specimen of Onychocrinus ulrichi.
