Here is a fabulous specimen of a fossil crinoid or "sea lily" from a famous site. This is a large Cyathocrinites multibrachiatus from the Mississippian of Indiana. The individual plate detail exhibited by this EXTREMELY 3-dimensional fossil is fantastic. The long, articulated stem is attached to a very robust, ornamented cup. The branching of the long, uniserial arms seems to go on forever - all the way to the very tiny tips of the arms. This specimen has been prepared in very high relief for maximum display. The crinoid has beautiful color and contrast. This specimen is huge for this type (the crown is 3 inches long!), and it is aesthetically centered on a large, somewhat rounded, 4.8" X 5.2" natural plate of siltstone. This is a beautiful crinoid for the discerning echinoderm collector or anyone else who appreciates fine fossils.
