This is a good plate of two different crinoids from the Mississippian of Iowa. This specimen was recently obtained from an old collection. The quarry where these specimens were found is now closed to collecting. On the left is an extremely rare specimen of Linocrinus compactus. This crinoid has very nodose plates in the low, bowl-shaped cup. The crinoid on the right is an unidentified specimen. This crinoid has a very high, flaring cup with smooth plates. Both of the crinoids have the arms attached and some stem present. The off-white color of the crinoids contrasts wonderfully with the gray matrix. The echinoderms are well positioned on the rounded plate of limestone. This is a nice double crinoid specimen from a classic location.
