This is a gorgeous specimen of Barycrinus hoveyi from the Mississippian deposits near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This large, robust crinoid is inflated and wonderfully articulated. The large, bulbous, smooth-plated cup shows exquisite plate structure. The stout, branching, uniserial arms are complete to the tips. This is highly unusual for this particular species of crinoid. The short ramules off the arms are beautifully displayed. A long, aesthetically curved section of stem is attached to the cup of the crinoid. The cream-colored fossil contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. It is well positioned on the rounded plate of siltstone. This is a very displayable specimen of this smooth-plated species of Barycrinus.
