This specimen was recently acquired from an old collection. It was collected at least thirty years ago. There are three crinoid crowns on the plate. The crinoid on the left side of the plate is Phanocrinus bellulus. This crinoid has a very bulbous cup. The heavy arms display the fine pinnules. There are two specimens of Phanocrinus formosus on the right side of the plate. These crinoids have more shallow cups. The arms are in a splayed position. The crinoid at the top even has a section of stem attached. These echinoderms are very 3-dimensional. The grayish-white color of the fossils contrasts nicely with the yellowish matrix. The crinoids are well positioned on the squared matrix plate. This is a fine specimen of Mississippian crinoids from a now-closed collecting site in Illinois.
