Here is a very interesting plate of crinoids from the Warsaw Formation of Illinois. There are three large specimens of Dizygocrinus gorbyi (bottom center and left side) on the plate. These camerate crinoids have very nodose plates comprising the cups. The stout, biserial arms are unbranched. Two of these specimens have the stem attached. One even shows long cirri coming off the stem. Above these crinoids, on the left side of the plate, is Eratocrinus coxanus. This inadunate crinoid has a pentagonal stem attached. On the right side of the plate, at the top, is a specimen of Hylodecrinus briareus. This inadunate crinoid has the arms in a splayed position. A section of stem is attached to the crinoid. At the bottom right of the slab is Cribanocrinus coxanus. This camerate crinoid exhibits the cup, arms, and a very long, articulated stem. The fossils are 3-dimensional and nicely centered on the semi-rectangular plate of matrix. The crinoids have good color and contrast. It is unusual to find so many crinoids clustered together from this site. This is a very displayable crinoid plate from the Mississippian of Illinois.
