This is a fabulous plate of crinoids. This specimen is from the famous site near Crawfordsville, Indiana. Both of these crinoids are very unusual. The crinoids are inflated and exhibit great detail. The crinoid on the left is Eretmocrinus granuliferus. This crinoid has very unusual arms. The strong, biserial arms get extremely wide at the top and become paddle-shaped. The cup exhibits great plate structure. A long articulated stem is tightly attached to the cup. The crinoid on the right is a large Dorycrinus gouldi. The calyx of this crinoid has very nodose plates. This crinoid has extremely long spines coming off the tegmen. Three of these spines are easily seen in this specimen. The spine on the left has been prepared in a free-standing manner so that the cup of the Eretmocrinus can be observed. The Dorycrinus has a very distinctive stem attached. Both crinoids have great color and contrast. They are beautifully centered on the rectangular matrix plate. This is a very aesthetic specimen of two of the most sought-after crinoids from the Crawfordsville area.
