This is a beautiful fossil crinoid. It is an Encrinus from Germany. This specimen is Triassic in age, which is very unusual- most of Europe experienced desert conditions during the Triassic. This type of crinoid is an Inadunate crinoid and has 10 stout, biserial arms. This specimen has a complete crown and a very long stem. The pinnulated arms are splayed out and are very well preserved. The crinoid is well positioned on a large, natural plate of matrix. There are also many crinoid fragments littered about the plate. This is a very displayable example of this unusual European crinoid.
