Here is an exciting plate of crinoids from the Mississippian Beds of Crawfordsville, Indiana. At the top of the plate is an unusual top view of Dorycrinus gouldi - one of the most highly-prized crinoids from this site. This type of camerate crinoid has a large, bulbous-plated cup and somewhat slender, biserial arms. However, the distinctive feature of this crinoid is the spines. This species has five long spines emanating from the tegmen and protruding between the arms. It also has a sixth spine arising from the top of the tegmen. All of the spines are present on this specimen and beautifully displayed. The delicate arms of the crinoid are complete to the very tips - even the small pinnules of the arms are intact. The base of the crinoid can be seen on the other side of the plate. A very detailed Parascytalocrinus hamiltonensis is positioned below the Dorycrinus. This inadunate crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup and long, stout, uniserial arms with many fine pinnules. The plate structure of this crinoid is superb and a section of the stem is still tightly attached. The 3-dimensional crinoids have excellent color and contrast. They are nicely positioned on the natural plate of siltstone. This is an exquisite plate of two different crinoids from the Edwardsville Formation.
