This is a very detailed specimen of Heliosocrinus aftonensis from the Chesterian of Illinois. This site is very famous for the wonderful specimens of Pentremites blastoids that can be found. Very rarely, a crinoid is found at this site. This is one of those crinoids. The large crinoid exhibits extraordinary detail. The plate structure of the cup is well defined. The long, uniserial arms display the branching pattern of the crinoid. A section of the pentagonal stem is attached. This is an excellent specimen of this unusual crinoid from the Mississippian of Illinois.
