This is a very unusual specimen. Of the thousands of Macrocrinus specimens that we have seen, this is the only specimen of Macrocrinus that we have witnessed that has a gastropod firmly attached to the crinoid. The crinoid is excellent. The multi-plated cup of the crinoid is very robust. An extremely long anal tube extends above the arms. A section of the stem is retained by the crinoid. The "feathery" arms display the fine pinnules. When Doug prepared the specimen, he removed some of the arms on the left side of the crinoid so that the dark brown Platyceras gastropod would be well displayed. The fossils have great color and contrast. This unusual symbiotic relationship is well centered on the rectangular matrix plate. This is an extremely rare occurrence of a Macrocrinus mundulus with a gastropod attached.
