This is a rare crinoid that we recently obtained from a major echinoderm collection. It is an Erisocrinus typus from the Pennsylvanian of Illinois. This crinoid was collected many years ago - the site has been closed for at least 25 years. Even when this site was open to collecting, very few specimens of this crinoid were found. This type of crinoid has a large bowl-shaped cup with stout, biserial arms. The fine detail of the crinoid is easily seen, and the natural, pinkish-white color of the ''sea lily'' is quite beautiful. The fossil is nicely presented on the plate of shale. This is a very collectible crinoid from a closed location.
