Here is an aesthetic specimen from the Mississippian of Illinois. On the left side of the matrix block is a fine example of Teleiocrinus umbrosus. This crinoid has very nodose plates that are somewhat stellate near the bottom of the long cup. The tegmen is intact and the arm attachment points are easily seen. On the right side of the plate is a superb example of Globoblastus norwoodi. This melon-shaped blastoid exhibits wonderful detail. The narrow ambulacra are quite evident. Both echinoderms are extremely 3-dimensional and nicely preserved. The off-white color of the fossils contrasts beautifully with the orangish matrix. They are well positioned on the rectangular block of limestone that is loaded with other crinoid fragments. This is a very good specimen of two different echinoderms from the Upper Burlington Formation.
