Here is a very interesting echinoderm specimen from the Burlington Formation of Missouri. On the left is a large specimen of Physetocrinus ventricosus. This crinoid has large, stellate plates on the cup and very small, smoother plates on the tegmen. The anal opening of the crinoid is quite evident. The arm attachment areas around the periphery are easily seen. There is also a blastoid, Globoblastus norwoodi, on the plate of limestone. This blastoid exhibits fine detail. The narrow ambulacra are nicely displayed. The spiracles of the blastoid are even apparent. There are a multitude of crinoid fragments present on the plate. The white color of the fossils contrast nicely with the orangish-brown matrix. They are well positioned on the semi-rectangular block of limestone. This is a very aesthetic specimen of different echinoderms from the Burlington Formation.
