Here is a beautiful crinoid. This is Cyathocrinites sp. from the Mississippian of Indiana. This crinoid used to be called Cyathocrinites parvibrachiatus by some, but that name is no longer valid. This species is characterized by having many more arms than the other species of Cyathocrinites. This specimen is EXTREMELY inflated and exhibits fine detail. This crinoid displays excellent plate structure of the large, bulbous cup. Most of the time, this species of Cyathocrinites has shortened or broken arms. This wonderful specimen has extremely long, thin, uniserial arms that just keep branching and branching. A section of the stem is even attached to the cup of the crinoid. The fossil has great color and contrast. It is well presented on the semi-triangular plate of siltstone. This is an excellent specimen of a very rare species of Cyathocrinites from Crawfordsville.
