This is a nice plate of crinoids from the Mississippian of Missouri. Although these two crinoids look very different, they belong to the same genus, based upon the plate structure. The specimen on the left is Uperocrinus aequibrachiatus. This crinoid has a very lobed appearance. The specimen on the right is Uperocrinus pyriformis. This crinoid has a much longer cup. The fossils are extremely 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The plate structure is nicely defined. The arm attachment points are easily seen. The echinoderms have great, off-white color that contrasts nicely with the orange matrix. They are well positioned on the rectangular plate of limestone. There are many other crinoid fragments on the plate. This is a fine example of both species of Uperocrinus from the Upper Burlington Formation.
