This is, by far, the largest Onychocrinus we have ever seen from this classic Midwestern location. This Mississippian location in southern Illinois has been closed to collecting for a number of years. This specimen was recently acquired from a major crinoid collection. The large flexible crinoid has good plate structure. It is very nicely articulated and displays the branching of the arms. A section of stem is still attached to the crinoid. The fossil has good, grayish color and contrasts nicely with the yellowish matrix. It is well centered on a rounded plate of matrix. This is a very displayable crinoid from an "old" collecting site in Illinois.
