This is a great example of the "nodding crinoid", Halysiocrinus nodosus. It is presumed that the stem was anchored to the sea bottom and ran parallel to the surface of the sea floor. The crinoid crown then "nodded" on the end of the stem just slightly above the sea floor. This specimen is very nicely centered on the matrix. It has good color and contrast and displays very well. Please notice the very unusual asymmetrical pattern of the arms. This is a truly fine example of a "nodding crinoid".
