Here is a very displayable specimen of one of the most sought-after crinoids from Indiana. This is Dorycrinus gouldi from the Mississippian. This particular camerate crinoid has a large, bulbous-plated cup and somewhat slender, biserial arms. However, the distinctive feature of this crinoid is the spines. This species has six long spines emanating from the tegmen - all six spines are wonderfully intact and easily seen on this specimen. This crinoid is well preserved and extremely 3-dimensional. It has been prepared in high relief so that it stands above the surface of the matrix. The plate structure of the robust cup is superb, and an extremely long, articulated stem is still tightly attached to the cup. The fossil has exceptional color and contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. It is beautifully centered on the natural plate of siltstone. This is an exciting specimen of this highly collectible ''spiny'' crinoid.
