This is a spectacular crinoid from Australia. It is a large Jimbacrinus bostocki from the Permian. Articulated Permian crinoids are quite rare in the fossil record. This type of crinoid has a large cup with highly ornamented, ''spiky'' plates and long, stout, uniserial arms that curl around and round. This robust specimen exhibits all of these features in wonderful fashion. A long, round stem is still tightly attached to the cup of the crinoid. The echinoderm has great color and contrast and is beautifully positioned on the natural plate that also contains a Platyceras gastropod and a tightly curling crinoid arm. This is a very displayable Permian crinoid from "Down Under".
