This is a very pretty crinoid. It is an Abrotocrinus coreyi from the Mississippian of Illinois. This type of crinoid has a small, bowl-shaped cup with long, branching, uniserial arms. This specimen is extremely well preserved and exhibits fine detail. The plate structure of the cup is clearly defined, and the pinnules of the arms are beautifully displayed. The pentagonal stem is still attached to the crinoid, and many long cirri are easily seen. The crinoid has excellent color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of siltstone that also contains another crinoid. This is an outstanding specimen of Abrotocrinus from the Warsaw Formation.
