Here is a very impressive crinoid. This is Traumatocrinus hsuixi from the Triassic of China. There are very few localities in the world where Triassic crinoids are found. This large (9 inches across) crinoid exhibits very good detail. The plates of the cup are easily seen, and the long, biserial arms display very strong pinnules. The arms of the crinoid are splayed, making for a dramatic presentation. A section of the large stem is still intact. The whitish color of the crinoid contrasts nicely with the dark gray matrix. The echinoderm is well positioned on the large plate of matrix that also contains several crinoid stems. This is a very striking example of a Mesozoic crinoid.
