This is an extremely interesting plate of fossils from the Waldron Shale of Indiana. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. This large plate of shale contains many different types of fossils. A very detailed crinoid holdfast is positioned in the left center of the plate. The branching "roots" are wonderfully displayed. There are two Platyostoma gastropods on the plate - one small example and one HUGE specimen. There are several different types of brachiopods on the slab, and also a few bryozoans - both branching and encrusting types. The fossils have good color and contrast and are nicely presented on the matrix plate. This is a great example of different organisms from the Silurian sea.
