This is an unusual crinoid. It is a nice specimen of Lyriocrinus dactylus from the Silurian of New York. Crinoids are very uncommon in the Rochester Shale. This crinoid has a large cup composed of many plates and very stout, biserial arms. These features are clearly defined on this specimen. The plate structure is easily seen, and a short section of stem is still tightly attached to the cup. The crinoid has good color and contrast and is well presented on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a fine example of Lyriocrinus from the Rochester Shale.
