Here is an extremely pretty crinoid. This is Actinocrinites gibsoni from the Mississippian layers near Crawfordsville, Indiana. This type of crinoid has a large cup composed of heavy, stellate plates and long, branching, biserial arms with fine pinnulation. This large camerate crinoid is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits superb detail. The plate structure is beautifully displayed, and the arms are unusually complete. The over-lapping arms show the pinules in wonderful fashion. The cream-colored crinoid contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The ''sea lily'' is well positioned on the rounded rectangular plate of siltstone. This is a very aesthetic example of Actinocrinites from the Edwardsville Formation.
