Here is a nice association of two different echinoderms from the Mississippian of Missouri. In the middle of the plate is a wonderful specimen of Cactocrinus proboscidalis. This crinoid has extremely ornate plates on the cup and very rugose plates on the tegmen. The stem attachment point and arm attachment points are easily seen. The long, spiky anal tube is even present, which is highly unusual. A fine specimen of Cryptoblastus melo is on the left side of the slab. This blastoid exhibits great detail. The plate structure is well defined and the thin ambulacra are easily seen. The 3-dimensional echinoderms have great color and contrast and are nicely positioned on the somewhat rectangular plate of limestone that is loaded with other echinoderm fragments. This is an attractive plate of echinoderms from the Lower Burlington Formation.
