Here is a very rare crinoid from the famous Edwardsville Formation at Crawfordsville, Indiana. This is a large Cosmetocrinus gracilis from the Mississippian. This type of inadunate crinoid has a large urn-shaped cup and long, heavy, uniserial arms that branch several times. Usually, when this crinoid is found, the arms are broken off very short. This specimen has the long arms wonderfully intact and the arms display the stout pinnules in beautiful fashion. The cup of the crinoid is quite inflated and a section of stem is still present. The crinoid has great color and contrast and is well centered on the rectangular plate of siltstone. This is an excellent specimen of an extremely uncommon crinoid from Crawfordsville.
